Child Support Center
The Child Support Center (CSC) was established in Kigali, Rwanda, in December 2009, with technical and financial support from EFA International.

EFA’s work with orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) in Rwanda started in May 2008 when EFA’s Executive Director began to assist the staff of the Rebero Orphan Center (ROC) – a local organization in the Rebero sector of Kigali providing support services to approximately 70 OVC in the community – to establish evidence-based programs for its beneficiaries. EFA conducted a thorough organizational capacity assessment and baseline evaluation of the OVC enrolled in ROC’s program. Based on the results of these activities, ROC and EFA International started to work together to improve ROC’s programming and services.
In early 2009, ROC experienced several administrative and managerial challenges that began to compromise the quality of the services provided to their beneficiaries. As a result of these problematic circumstances, and following a series of discussions with local government representatives, ROC program staff elected to re-establish the support center in a new neighborhood and under a new name – the Child Support Center (CSC) – while continuing to provide the same support services to ROC’s former beneficiaries. EFA International has provided technical and financial assistance throughout the transition period and will continue to work with the CSC in 2010 to provide the children at the center with educational assistance, adequate nutrition and basic health care.
NOTE: As of March 2011, EFA’s financial involvement with its partner, Hope Shines, has come to an end. You may now donate to the CSC via the Hope Shines website.
