Sponsor ABEPSA’s Commercial Market Project

Purchase and Sale of Foodstuffs

Due to the 9 month long dry season in northern Cameroon, important cereals such as millet, corn, and soy are cultivated, dried, and stored for use during the year. Just after the harvest in October, these items can be purchased relatively cheaply at local markets in rural villages. As the end of the dry season approaches, stocked food supplies begin to dwindle and the market price of these items skyrocket often up to five times the original purchased price.

The members of ABEPSA would like to open a warehouse to store millet, rice, corn, beans, soy beans and peanuts, purchased directly after the harvest, and re-sell them later in the year for profit. The stocked foodstuffs can also assist members of the association in times of difficulty. The members will sell the foodstuffs at market, creating employment for members, and the profits will allow them to buy even more stock during the following harvest.
