Spotlight on Youth: Yaya
Association: AJEPS, (Maroua, Extreme North Region)
How did you join the association?
I was approached by two members of the association, Boukar and Antionette, who counseled me to join AJEPS by telling me the benefits that they’ve gained from participation in the group.
How do you feel about being a member of the EFA network? Why?
I am happy to be a member because I am touched that a stranger would come from far away to our country to help us. In as much as we will have people who will visit us, like the University of Maryland students, our association will only get bigger.
How do you benefit from being a member of AJEPS and the EFA network?
I’ve received computer science training and a grant for starting a small enterprise project.
What have you learned as a member of an association?
I’m not afraid like before. Since I have started and found people like me, I’m not afraid anymore. It’s been 3 years (since 2006).
What would you like to do in the future?
I want a cattle farm.

These photos demonstrate the physical change that comes about when young people start to live positively with their disease.
