Spotlight on Youth: Ndang
University: University of Maryland College Park
My name is Ndang Azang-Njaah and I am a student at the University of Maryland College Park. During my time as an undergraduate, I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the University of Maryland’s premier honors program, Honors Humanities. As a first generation American, with both parents native to Cameroon, I took it upon myself to gain a greater knowledge of Cameroon as a country and not simply as my nationality or ethnic background. I decided to use Cameroon as a topic for my Honors Keystone Project in the form of a UMD study abroad trip to Cameroon in the summer of 2007. Working with the AJEPS youth group in Northern Maroua provided me with a wonderful perspective of what it means to know someone who lives with HIV/AIDS and even being able to learn how they have to live their lives, despite marginalization and the lack of support from loved ones.
As you will see in this website, I have used my experiences to share and express my great interest in the country and why it is so meaningful to me.
